Payment Procedures for Tuition and Boarding

The following fees are compulsory, non-refundable and non-transferable.

1. Application Fee: THB 4,000 per student

This is a one-time fee payable when the application form is submitted. This fee is payable for all students who are applying to Prem for the first time.

2. Foundation Fee: THB 130,000 per student if paid as one-time payment.

This fee must be paid at time of enrolment or on a two- or three-year instalment plan. The instalment plan is as follows:

	THB 45,000	payable by 15 June of second year if on three-year plan
Year Three	THB 30,000	payable by 23 July of third year in school

3. 2011 - 2012 Tuition Fees in Thai Baht

The following are tuition fees for the 2011 - 2012 school year. Parents who pay the entire school fees for the next academic year are entitled to a 5% reduction in tuition and boarding fees if paid by 30 June.

4. 2010 - 2011 Boarding Fees in Thai Baht

The boarding fee includes a comprehensive weekend activity program, academic support in the evenings, room and board, medical insurance and airline ticketing services.

Parents of boarders will also create a contingency account with online access to their son’s or daughter’s bank account. Boarding staff will give recommended amounts.

5. Security Deposit: THB 50,000 per student

This is a fee which is payable when a student is offered a place at Prem. The fee is refundable without interest at the end of Grade 12 or after the student withdraws from the school provided all texts are returned and one term’s notice in writing has been given to the Admissions Office.

The following fees are additional and may not apply to all students.

6. English for Academic Purposes Program (EAPP): THB 18,020 per term

This fee for English for Academic Purposes Program (EAPP) must be paid before the beginning of each quarter in which instruction will be received. Refunds will be provided only for full terms of non-participation. Students in the EAPP must pass a language proficiency test before they exit either language program.

7. Transport: THB 8,850 to THB 10,820 per term (Day students only)

This fee is for students who elect to take the transportation contracted by the school. This fee may be paid each term. Refunds will be provided only for full terms of non-usage. Transport charges are set each term and are based on distance from the school. No transport fee K1 to K3 students.

8. Lunch and break time fee (Day students only)

THB 7,140 per term for Senior School students
THB 5,960 per term for Grade 1 to 5

Lunch fees are reviewed and set each term. No lunch fee for K1 to K3 students.

9. Uniforms (All students)

A new school uniform will be available commencing AY 2011 – 2012. Students may wear the new or existing Prem school uniforms, which may be purchased at the school shop, for AY 2011 - 2012. The school recommends the following items be purchased as a minimum:

• One or two white Lana or the new shirts
• Two or three blue polo or the new shirts
• One or two trousers (boys or girls)
• Two skorts (girls) or shorts (boys)
• One polartec fleece jacket for cooler weather
• PE shorts and T-shirts

10. Locker Rental (Grade 6 to 12)

All students from Grade 6 to Grade 12 must use a school-supplied combination lock for their lockers. The charge is THB 500 and THB 250 is refunded at the end of the year when the lock is returned in good condition. The fee is added to the first invoice.

11. IBO Fees (Grade 12 IB Diploma and IB Certificate students)

Students in Grade 12 will pay up to an additional THB 25,000 for examination fees depending on courses selected and IBO international rates set in pounds sterling.

12. Courier and Postage Costs (Grade 11 and Grade 12 students)

Parents will be billed a postage and handling charge for sending applications to universities. Depending on the location, courier costs can be THB 1,200 – THB 1,500 per application to overseas universities.

13. Additional IB Course Subject Fees (IB Diploma and IB Certificate students)

Certain courses in the IB program carry additional costs due to the expense of visiting sites off-campus. Additional costs for these courses may approach THB 15,000 per subject. Courses that carry additional costs are IB Art, IB Biology and IB Geography. English A1 and English A2 text books are purchased by the students.

14. Grade 6 to 11 Field Trips

Field Trips for Grade 6 - 11 are included in the fees for 2011 - 2012. Additional field trip surcharges may be applied for trips that leave the Northern Thailand region.

15. Additional Transcripts Fee

Six transcripts for universities are provided with the Courier and Handling fee. Students who leave Prem and request additional transcripts will be charged the actual postage/courier rates plus THB 300 per transcript for processing.

16. Non-Essential transport (Boarding students only)

Boarding students who need non-emergency dental or other non-emergency services are responsible for transport costs.

17. Specific Co-curricular or Instrumental Music Program Fees

Certain co-curricular courses such as professional golf, tennis, football, SAT preparation courses, Tai chi and instrumental music lessons that are very specialised in nature and not taught by Prem teachers will carry additional fees.

18. SAT Examination Fees

Students who take SAT examinations at Prem are charged fees set by the SAT examination board. The school may hire outside SAT instructors to give SAT courses during the year.

For students withdrawing during the 2011 - 2012 academic year, fees will be refunded by the following guidelines

Withdrawal within the first two weeks of Term One	75% of Term One Fees
Withdrawal after 19 August 2011	No refund of Term One Fees
Withdrawal within the first two weeks of Term Two	75% of Term Two Fees
Withdrawal after 04 November 2011	No refund of Term Three Fees
Withdrawal within the first two weeks of Term Three	75% of Term Three Fees
Withdrawal after 20 January 2012	No refund of Term Three Fees

No refund for Term Four withdrawal unless fees have been paid for a year in advance.

If parents pay a year in advance, the following refund is given:

Up to the end of Term One	70% of yearly Tuition
Up to the end of Term Two	50% of yearly Tuition
Up to the end of Term Three	30% of yearly Tuition
Up to the end of Term Four	No refund

The Security Deposit is only refunded if parents other than Grade 12 parents give the Admissions Office one term’s notice in writing of their intention to withdraw a student.

Current or enrolling students at Prem may be eligible for the following discounts:

• Families with two or more children simultaneously in attendance at Prem will receive a 10% discount on the tuition and, where applicable, on the boarding fee for the second child. Subsequently enrolled students will receive a discount of 15% from the tuition fees.


• When the parents give notice that the removal of the student is for study or for some other reason acceptable to the Head of School, the student’s place will be held open for up to two years. Re-entry will then be granted without the payment of a second Application Fee or a second Foundation Fee.


• New enrolling students who are transferring from another school in Thailand and who have paid that schools Foundation/Registration fee in the last three years will have that amount deducted from the Prem Foundation Fee. The Co-Director of Admissions may ask for a receipt as proof of payment.


• For families enrolling their third child at Prem the Foundation Fee will be not charged. This extends to siblings enrolling at different times.


• In families with four children - the fourth child will be exempt from the Application Fee, the Foundation Fee, tuition and boarding fees for the duration that the student is the fourth sibling simultaneously enrolled. At the graduation or withdrawal from Prem of any sibling, the fourth student will then commence paying tuition and boarding fees, and would be eligible for the 15% reduction as a "third" child.

Payment may be made by one of three methods:

Late payment penalties shall be applied:

• Overdue accounts are billed at 1.25% month
• After thirty days beyond the invoice due date all student records will be withheld by the school and the Head of School may ask for the student(s) to be withdrawn from the school.

About Scholarships
How to Apply

Prem Tinsulanonda International School is a community that challenges its members to act as compassionate, knowledgeable and principled global citizens working together for a sustainable future and inspired by meaningful relationships, continuous learning and 'good thinking'. 

Prem offers scholarships to outstanding students each academic year. 

Academic Scholarships may be awarded to students who demonstrate leadership, initiative and high academic achievement. Sports or Arts Scholarships may be awarded to students who demonstrate leadership, initiative and high achievement in at least one of the sports academies, or in music, theatre or art.

Each year one His Excellency General Prem Tinsulanonda Leadership Scholarship may be awarded.

Applicants may be students currently enrolled at Prem or currently enrolled at another school but seeking places at Prem.

Up to two Prem Bhutanese Leadership Scholarships may be awarded in each year to nominated scholars.

Value

The value of scholarships will usually range from 25% to 50% reduction in tuition and / or boarding, with Prem Bhutanese Leadership Scholarship-selected scholars receiving full remission of fees.  All scholarships are subject to annual review and may be tenable until the student finishes Grade 12 or leaves Prem.

Publicity

A list of names of those awarded a scholarship may be published from time to time to recognise these outstanding students.

Who should apply?

A scholarship recipient will be a student of high calibre who not only has demonstrated leadership in his or her current school but who also wishes to be exposed to an outstanding international educational environment that encourages students to be courageous, compassionate and ethical global citizens with the ‘good thinking’ needed to face the challenges of today.

What criteria are considered?

• Academic achievement indicated in information supplied in the completed Application Form. This information may include, but need not be limited to, class standing, rigour of the curriculum, cumulative grade point average and standardised test scores.


• Applicant’s ability to lead in her / his respective area with courage, integrity and compassion.


• Significant personal accomplishment beyond the traditional measures of academic achievement. This may include work experience, outstanding sporting ability, community service involvement, personal accomplishments in spite of adversity, or outstanding artistic talent and special accomplishment in music, theatre or art.

All scholarship applicants must submit:

• A completed scholarship application form
 Scholarship Form


• Three written recommendations from teachers and or other people of standing in the applicant’s community, which should address the character of the applicant and her / his leadership, academic, sporting, artistic or service initiatives and achievements in his / her school or community.


• A hand-written essay by the candidate on the following topic:
  
  How I have demonstrated leadership qualities in my school or my community, and how I envisage leading and contributing to life through Prem program.


• Academic reports for the last twelve months

Sports or Arts Scholarships candidates will be required to submit portfolios, attend a training session or take part in an audition process, as applicable.

Students may also be invited to attend an interview with the Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Selection Committee will bring recommendations for scholarship awards to the Prem Executive, which will make the final decision.

Bursaries

A bursary is a form of financial assistance to students enrolled at Prem or those enrolled at another school but who are seeking places at Prem.

The Scholarship Selection Committee meets in April and November to advise the Head of School, who will determine the awarding of bursaries.

Bursaries are means-tested and families will be required to demonstrate true financial hardship. Bursaries if offered are subject to annual reviews which examine the student’s performance and behaviour in school and demonstrated continued family financial hardship. The continuation of a bursary is at the sole discretion of the Head of School.
