Students are housed in modern and comfortable two-bedroom apartments with ensuite bathrooms. These apartments are continually being upgraded to ensure excellent facilities.

Students have access to the internet from 6.00 am until bedtime, when laptops and mobile telephones are secured in lock boxes ensure students do not have access to computers after lights out.

A secure and safe environment is provided by thirteen full time boarding staff, who live in the same residential cluster as the students and operate a roster system of 24-hour on-call.

Prior to the arrival of your child all relevant medical information, which will assist us in providing the best possible care for your child, must be completed in the Application Form. This information is confidential and stored in the Medical Center.

Student Medical Insurance

The school has negotiated a comprehensive medical insurance package with Bupa Blue Cross, a global health insurance company. It is compulsory for all boarding students to join this Medical Scheme which costs 9,000 baht per annum and is included in boarding school fees.

Medical Center

Prem has a fully-equipped Medical Center, which is staffed from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. Our qualified nursing staff live on campus and are on-call 24 hours. If students wish to attend the Medical Center during school hours they need to gain permission from a teacher and then sign out with the Senior School Secretary. If they have a medical issue outside of school hours they need to gain permission from the boarding staff on duty. In some situations, the Nurse is called by the boarding staff to attend the student in their room. In addition, the Nurse visits the boarding cluster each evening at 8.30 pm.

Hospital Visits

On occasion our students do need to make a hospital visit. When this occurs, a member of staff will generally accompany the student to their appointment. Parents are notified by the Nursing staff or a Senior member of the boarding staff, usually by email. If the hospital visit is of an urgent nature, parents will be contacted immediately. Any student who is admitted to hospital for an overnight stay is accompanied by a boarding staff member.

There are several excellent hospitals in Chiang Mai. We have included their websites and phone numbers for your information.

Prem Tinsulanonda International School has thirteen security guards who work in shifts for 24 hours a day. Students will not be allowed to leave the premises unless they are with a staff member, parent or Guardian. The only exception to this is that small groups of students are allowed, with permission, to visit the local village. During the night the guards are located in the boarding house courtyards from 10.00 pm till 6.00 am.

All visitors to Prem must register at the front gate and will be required to provide photo identification. Visitors are then issued with a Visitors Pass.

To assist in this procedure it is advised that all parents have their photo taken for a parent pass. This can be done in the Admissions Office. This will then allow you through the gate in a more expeditious manner.

All boarding students must make their travel arrangements so that they are at school until the last day of term. The school day ends at 3.00 pm. This means that the earliest flight that students should be catching is around 5.00 pm.

Students are required to return on the day prior to term starting. This allows them enough time to settle back in to their rooms, unpack and be well rested and ready for classes the following day.

If your son/daughter is required to leave early or return late, please notify the Director of Boarding or the Boarding Secretary to ensure that the classroom teachers and Principals are aware of this.

Prior to arrival, contact the Director of Boarding lindab@threegeneration.org or the boarding secretary juthamardw@threegeneration.org with your flight number and arrival date and time for airport pickup.

Weekend Leave

Weekend leave must not interfere with other school commitments and will be allowed only with permission from DOB, from the parent, and the host parent/guardian.

Students complete a weekend leave form by the Wednesday evening preceding the weekend. This form is then handed in to boarding staff and on Thursday parents will receive an email or phone call with the details of the host parent/guardian with whom your child wishes to stay for the weekend.

Once parents have been in contact with the host parent, they are asked to contact us giving permission for their child to leave the campus. If we do not receive permission from prents for their child to leave the campus, we will assume that they would rather that their child remain at school.

No student can leave the campus on a non-designated school outing without parental permission.

We would prefer students not to undertake weekend leave on either the first or last weekend of term, unless they are accompanied by their parents.

Boarders are allowed to invite day students into the boarding house on weekends with the permission of either the DOB or the Deputy Director of Boarding.

Please ensure your requests for transportation are completed at least two days in advance.

All boarding students should make every effort to return to school on the evening prior to school commencing.
The Experiential Education Program operates every Saturday morning from 9.30 am to 12.00 pm. This program is compulsory for all full-time Junior (Grade 6 - 7) and Middle Year (Grade 8 - 10) boarders and optional for Seniors (Grade 11 - 12).

This program may involve Taekwondo, yoga, archery, fitness, horse riding, mini-golf, archery, jewellery making courses, cooking, soccer, basketball or outdoor pursuits.

Students will be asked to make a selection for the whole term or possibly longer.

Weekly boarders or even day students may wish to make a similar commitment but they would have to pay for the sessions.

Also in the Saturday 10.30 to 12.15 pm time slot there will be an additional study session for senior students (Grade 11 - 12) in their apartments. This is generally supervised by academic staff.

Weekend leave usually commences from after lunch on Saturday afternoon (1.00 pm) and will finish by 6.00 pm on Sunday when all weekly boarders are due back.

Both the Experiential Education Program and senior extra study session will be run by the Teachers on Duty (TOD), The Interns on Duty (IOD) and is coordinated by the Director of Boarding (DOB) and the Deputy Director of Boarding (DDOB).

Boarders' Activities Weekends

There will be several designated “Boarders’ Activities Weekends” per year. The purpose of these weekends is to enhance and promote cooperation within the boarding community.

Attendance is compulsory for all boarders. On these occasions boarders will be under full supervision of House Parents and teachers.

These activities will be published well in advance and could involve trekking, rafting (both rubber and bamboo), camping and a variety of other outdoor activities.

Wat Chiang Man

Located on Ratchapakkinai Road, this is Chiang Mai’s oldest temple and probably dates from 1296. The temple was the residence of King Mengrai, who founded Chiang Mai, and is noteworthy for a chedi supported by rows of elephantine buttresses, and a small ancient Buddha image, Phra Kaeo Khao.

When I was considering which boarding school to attend, Prem simply stood out from the rest. It is not just the wonderful facilities that are available, but the atmosphere the students and teachers bring to it. Living together in boarding at Prem teaches us to respect one another by being aware of our cultural differences, our backgrounds and our personalities. I believe that being a boarding student at Prem is helping me to grow as a person. Prem is much more than just a boarding school. It is my home and I realize how privileged I am to be here, where I know that I am safe.

- Gabriella (Peru) Grade 12

There are many things I like about being a boarding student at Prem. I like the nice food, the nice students and the fact that you can ask anybody for help and they DO help. I have made so many new friends here. What I like the most is that Prem is not only a boarding school; it is a family and a home for me while I am away from home.

- Thrizong (Bhutan) Grade 6

For me being at Prem is exciting, very enjoyable and a great opportunity to learn. I love the fact that I am responsible for myself. I also love having great friends from all around the world! My roommates and I represent three different religions and five different cultures. Sharing our life stories is so interesting. I really enjoy sitting in the courtyard in the afternoon sun, talking about the most common things or the deep philosophies of other peoples' cultures as we listen to music. Living away from home can be a challenge but it is exactly what you make out of it.

- Annalisa (Germany) Grade 11

This is my first year at Prem and my first boarding school experience. It's been really good because everyone is just so helpful. Initially I did feel homesick, but thankfully all the supportive and warm people here made my life so much easier. The environment is beautiful, peaceful and, above all, extremely safe. The facilities are awesome and the interns are also very accommodating when we request academic help. Over the course of this year I have seen myself maturing, and my parents would agree! I’ve become an independent individual. Prem has given me many opportunities to develop my personality, and I am satisfied knowing that I have chosen who I want to be. Prem has become my "home away from home".

- Sudha (India) Grade 11

A normal day for me includes attending classes and sharing meals with my friends. I really like the food here. I also like playing basketball, playing games and going to co-curricular activities. After dinner I do my homework, shower and get ready for bed. I lie on my bed and listen to my music before I fall asleep. In boarding people look after me and they are kind. I get to play with my friends and go to different places around Chiang Mai on the weekends. If I am not well they take care of me. I LOVE PREM!

- Len (Korea) Grade 8

I like how the teachers and students at Prem are so friendly. You can make friends easily. I can also do sports every day and the training is really good. Also, in the evenings, I can get so much work done because boarding students have "prep" every night. House games, activities and weekend excursions are really fun and they keep us busy! I like the way the boarding staff take care of us and look after us. If they say they are going to improve something that wasn't good, they do as they say. It is so peaceful here.

- Yumi (Bhutan) Grade 7

I joined boarding at Prem when I was in Grade 4. The people here take care of me and make sure that I am happy. I like living at Prem because I get more homework done. I like the activities and the house games. I also enjoy the atmosphere on campus. Being around the older girls is fun and I like it when we sing in the courtyard in the evening. Other highlights of my life here include watching movies with my friends and having special suppers made for us.

- Areeya (Thailand) Grade 5
